Broad Ripple Park Family Center Contruction

Indy Parks broke ground Wednesday on a new family center at Broad Ripple Park.

The facility will include an upgraded fitness area, indoor walking track and a health clinic operated by Indianapolis-based Community Health Network.

The new family center is part of the Broad Ripple Park Master Plan that was unveiled in 2018 after gathering public input.

“So proud of the community engagement, partner conversations, the staff leadership,”  Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot said.

The new center is part of a $70 million master renovation plan for the park that called for the replacement of the former 11,000 square foot facility.

The previous family center, which was located at the park, has been demolished.

Construction of the new center is expected to be complete by the end of 2022.

Some members of the community have challenged plans for the center. They’re concerned that the city’s deal with Community Health Network sets a dangerous precedent for a sell off of other park lands.
