The COVID-19 pandemic forced Eve’s Place officials to look at fundraising in a different way and it produced one large donation.
The agency received a $65,000 donation in cryptocurrency.
Eve’s Place officials had to cancel the annual fundraising event due to COVID-19 and needed to find a way to offset the loss of revenue. The idea of accepting cryptocurrency had been an emerging conversation but was not a high priority until lockdowns occurred and fundraising came to a halt.
Eve’s Place only recently made the decision to accept cryptocurrency after being approached by The Giving Block, a service that assists nonprofit organizations to accept cryptocurrency donations. Having the assistance from The Giving Block made it possible for Eve’s Place to diversify its traditional donor base and accept a far broader range of property types as donations
“The Giving Block provided Eve’s Place information about the process for our organization to step into another way to raise essential funding, especially during the pandemic when our clients have more needs than ever before,” Laura Horsley, Eve’s Place chief executive officer, stated in a press release. “Once we completed the necessary steps to accept cryptocurrency the fundraising began. “
Eve’s Place has participated in several smaller events and raised funds for services. The most recent anonymous donation of 6 bitcoin was an absolute surprise and blessing, Ms. Horsley stated.
“With no end in sight for the near future with COVID-19 restrictions, this donation makes it possible for us to adjust as our government funding is being cut by 20% in October,” she stated. “The $65,000 covers 25% of the cuts coming to our agency.”
Accepting cryptocurrency donations is providing a new way to diversify funding for the organization, expanding its reach to possible donors and, most importantly, creating stability in funding for clients, according to Ms. Horsley.
Donations are used to cover services such as transportation to appointments, personal protective equipment for clients along with food and toiletry boxes. This year donations are also covering Internet services for youth clients who need to attend online classes.
Eve’s Place currently accepts crypto donations in bitcoin, ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Zcash (ZEC), Gemini Dollar (GUSD), Basic Attention Token (BAT) and Chainlink (LINK).
